1941 Lockheed Electra 10A S/N1145 'Diego de Almagro', is making steady progress towards flying once again; check out our updates for the latest news on this ambitious and thorough non-profit restoration project.

In many countries, the Lockheed Electra played an important part in the early history of scheduled and company air travel, which we so easily take for granted today.

Famous figures such as Amelia Earhart are associated with the elegant L10, which was a substantial advancement in aviation technology and speed when it first came on the scene in the mid 1930's.

We hope you enjoy this web site.  If you have any items or information which you feel may be of benefit to the restoration project, please do not hesitate to contact us via the "Parts Wanted" or "Links & Contacts" pages.

** LATEST UPDATES - 7th March, 24th February 2010 **

News from the L10A hangar 24th Feb:

After weeks of removing corrosion, repair + cleaning of the sub structure and making the various replacement parts and skins, we are now well on the home straight and visual progress is rapidly advancing as the belly skins are riveted on. Two of the forward belly skins (the most complex ones) were missing so had to be made from scratch, using photos, drawings, the MOTAT display and the existing structure as a guide. We now also have an addition to the fleet in the form of a small Kubota tractor, intended to tow the aircraft. It was looking very sad indeed when it came in the door. but has now been thoroughly 'pimped' by the team and is generating a few jealous stares, looking resplendent in its new 'L10A red' paint scheme. Photo updates to be posted soon!

News from the L10A hangar 21st Dec:

Although disrupted and pushed behind schedule by work on hangar doors and equipment maintenance, the rear fuselage has been steadily progressing. The various challenges involved in making an entire new rear bulkhead assembly (all parts were either cracked or out of alignment due to a previous field repair) are now 'behind' us and the bulkhead is finally in place. Work on the tailplane centre section, attach angles and belly skins is underway. The new outboard undercarriage mount is now in place and work will soon commence on final installation of the mains.

News from the L10A hangar 5th Nov:

The big shed has been resonating with the sound of hundreds of rivets being carefully set as the remaining skins on the rear fuselage were attached! A delay caused by subcontractor quality issues on a rear bulkhead part has caused a delay with riveting the last foot of the rear fuse, but everything else is all go. The remaining rear bulkhead parts have been manufactured, heat treated and drilled, with final details scheduled to be finished off when the centre section of the tail is fitted again. The replacement undercarriage gearboxes (see centre section photos) have been set up & assembled and the new cabin door frame has been riveted in place. Work will soon begin on replacing the last few skins on the belly of the aircraft, as well as re-skinning the tailplane centre section. Then its onto the exciting phase of fitting systems!

News from the L10A hangar 8th Oct:

Things are getting interesting!  After a month off the project, we are now back into it with a vengeance, all the new stringers, frames, skins, entire rear bulkhead and a multitude of small parts for the rear fuselage have been completed, trial fitted and drilled. The new rear bulkhead and beams are away for heat treatment and due back sometime next week. Six aft fuselage skins are being polished in readiness for installation. The tailwheel oleo assembly has been trial fitted and many control system parts inspected, prepared and painted. The next 2-3 weeks should see a huge and exciting leap in visual progress, a culmination of months worth of detail work.

News from the L10A hangar 27th June:

Steady progress is being made on the tail section, the new cabin door frame parts came in from Custom Metal Shaping and were carefully finished off, trimmed, trial fitted and have now been anodized and painted ready for final installation. The aft cabin bulkhead + door (normally aft wall of toilet) has been fully restored. The fuselage is now sporting shiny new roof and side skins, with the remaining skins being made while the structure is sorted out and new frames are installed.
